EV Road Trips
One of the biggest reasons why people say an EV isn't right for them is the worry about charging on road trips. They are generally two questios raised and we address both of them below.
Are there chargers available?
Many people assume that because they don't see EV chargers that they aren't there. But EV charging stations aren't usually like gas stations with big signs and a store to go along with it. Use the EV route tool below to test out routes and see where the chargers are along the way. This is just a simple test and most EVs do an even better job of finding chargers and adding in the best chargers to make your trip more efficient.
How long do charging stops take?
I was surprised that a lot of people assume that it takes hours to charge an EV on a road trip. In fact, many charging stops are 30 minutes or less. For some, even that 30 minutes seems like a long time compared to gas. But here is the key detail about EV charging. You can plug in, do other things (eat, shot, restroom break) and then come back to the car! Compare that to gas stops where most people usually stand there while pumping gas and then move the car so they can use the bathroom or eat. By combining charging with other activities, charging stops can be quite efficient!
