Celebrating 100 years of America's most historic highway, creators Patrick Anderson and Liv Leigh of The Electric Duo have completed their eight-part video series, Route 66 Recharged.
Officially certified as a Route 66 Centennial project, the travel series follows the pair on a 2,400-mile, 100% electric road trip from Chicago to Santa Monica in a 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT California Special — proving that cross-country EV travel in the centennial year is not only accessible and easy, but the ultimate way to experience the open road.
Across eight weekly episodes, Route 66 Recharged bridges historic preservation with the future of mobility. The series highlights iconic roadside culture, mom-and-pop shops, classic neon, and local legends across Route 66 alongside the rapidly growing national EV charging landscape. The expedition has also been featured in Ford's From the Road publication, and the Duo hosted multiple Ford EV (& Friends) meetups along the way.
One of the biggest obstacles to EV adoption is perception — range anxiety, charging availability, and road-trip feasibility. We wanted to change that narrative on America's ultimate road trip. Driving Route 66 in an electric car shows that you don't have to choose between rich historic heritage and clean, modern innovation.
